Abstract:

In this article we propose to analyze the opening chapter of the Phenomenology of Spirit, namely the sections dedicated to Sense Certainty and Perception. Our analysis will be oriented by the application of the concept of negation. In both sections, negation is employed by Hegel in different contexts, although interrelated: in the first case, according to the Hegelian theory of universals, in the second case, according to the negative character of determination. Finally, our global interpretation of these two sections will based on the Hegelian interpretation of skepticism as a third form of negation, namely, determinate negation.

 

Abstract in Portuguese:

Neste artigo propomo-nos analisar o capítulo inicial da obra Fenomenologia do Espírito, nomeadamente as secções dedicadas à Certeza Sensível e Percepção, procurando interpretá-las segundo a aplicação do conceito de negação. Em ambos as secções, a negação surge em contextos próximos, mas diferenciados: no primeiro caso, em função da teoria hegeliana dos universais, no segundo caso, em função do carácter negativo da determinação. Finalmente, a leitura global das duas secções será orientada pela interpretação hegeliana do cepticismo como expressão de uma terceira forma de negação, a saber, a negação determinada.
