Abstract:

This contribution aims to approximate and unfold a research about the European borders landscapes through the defensive ruins of the 20th Century. From this objective, a reflection will be constructed in relation to these objects as foundational elements of a space. From the theoretical legacies as the Martin Heidegger’s one, with ideas such as the association between experience and appropriation or the concept of Das Ding, this exercise will develop what could be called a limit phenomenology on the landscape. That means to establish a theoretical link between a specific ruin category (a defensive ruin, a limiting architecture) and the experience of time in relation to this architectonical space and that network space (landscape). Concepts such as distance, vision, waiting or suspect will be foundational to built a phenomenology of the landscape experience ‒the experience of the defensive territory, of an architecture to not inhabit, of the threat, of the anxious.

 

Abstract in Portuguese:

Esta contribuição pretende aproximar e desdobrar as investigações sobre as paisagens das fronteiras europeias a partir das ruínas defensivas do século XX. Com essa finalidade, uma reflexão será construída em relação a esses objetos como elementos fundacionais de um espaço. A partir de legados teóricos como o de Martin Heidegger, em aspectos como a associação entre a experiência e apropriação ou o conceito de Das Ding, procurará se desenvolver o que poderia chamar-se uma fenomenologia do limite na paisagem. Quer dizer, pretende-se estabelecer uma ligação teórica entre uma específica categoria de ruína (uma ruína de defesa, uma arquitectura limitadora) e a vivência do tempo em relação a esse espaço arquitectónico e esse espaço em red (paisagístico). Termos como os de distancia, visão, espera ou suspeita serão fundacionais para a uma fenomenologia da experiência paisagística ‒do território defensivo, da uma arquitectura para não-habitar, da ameaça, da angústia.
