João Branquinho took his doctorate at the University of Oxford, where he studied with Timothy Williamson. He is presently Full Professor of Philosophy at the University of Lisbon and coordinated for more than 20 years the LanCog (Language, Mind and Cognition) Research Group at the Philosophy Centre of the University of Lisbon. A past President of the European Society for Analytical Philosophy (2002-2005), João edited the book The Foundations of Cognitive Science (Oxford University Press: 2002) and co-edited the book Enciclopédia de Termos Lógico-Filosóficos (Martins Fontes: 2006). He is about to finish a book on analytic metaphysics written in Portuguese. His areas of specialization are: Philosophy of Language and Semantics, Metaphysics, and Foundations of Cognitive Science. João has published several articles in peer-reviewed international journals such as Analysis and Philosophical Perspectives. He founded the international journal of philosophy Disputatio and edited and co-edited it (with Teresa Marques) for many years (until 2015). João is the PI of the FCT research project Compêndio em Linha de Problemas de Filosofia Analítica. His current work is on the dynamics of indexical belief, existence, the nature of modes of presentation, and the relations between rigid designation and content.
