I am currently a Senior Research Fellow funded by the Humboldt Foundation at the University of Cologne and an honorary Associate Member of the CFUL at the University of Lisbon, leading a project on The Architecture of Social Sensitivity. My research is concerned with the roles of habit, attention, and attitude in empathy, and it mostly draws on contemporary phenomenological philosophy. I believe that empathy is not exclusively concerned with the perception of other minds but it crucially involves sensitivity to salient elements of the other’s perspective and situation. I am currently working on the interplay between attentiveness and dispositions as well as on the role of habit in the constitution of empathic attitudes. One of the main outputs of my project is to uncover the ethical implications of empathy with particular regard to the relation between empathy and respect
