This year nepUL is pleased to announce the new CFA for its new International Political Studies Colloquium: More Representation = Democracy?. There has been a growing debate within the media and academic realm in what democracy is concerned. We may often consider the legitimacy of our democracy when hearing an emerging expression of feelings of distrust towards politicians, increasing abstention in many democratic countries and raise of social frustration which leads to the election of so-called extremist parties, non-politicians and populist views. As so, is representation a sufficient condition for the existence of a democratic society or is it only necessary? If not, are the actions of the representatives the answer or are institutions the biggest actors in this political and social scenario?
