Puzzles of Knowledge

Picture
PUZZLES OF KNOWLEDGE, LanCog, University of Lisbon, 12–13 November 2015
Organized by Elia Zardini

The concept of knowledge (as well as other related epistemic concepts) is well known to give rise to a variety of philosophical conundrums simply in virtue of some fairly abstract principles that would seem to govern it. Examples include: single-premise closure has been claimed to imply scepticism; factivity and some sort of proof-yields-knowledge principle generate the Knower paradox; the KK principle has been argued to be incompatible with inexact knowledge etc. The workshop aims at bringing together researchers working in these different areas and at advancing our understanding of these puzzles as well as of their possible connections.

SPEAKERS
Julien Dutant, Bernhard Salow, Patrick Greenough, Franck Lihoreau, Federico Luzzi, Anna Mahtani, Sebastiano Moruzzi, Elia Zardini.

LOCATION AND REGISTRATION
The workshop will take place at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon (address: Alameda da Universidade). Registration is free, but if you plan to attend you must let Carla Simões know at: c.filosofia@letras.ulisboa.pt

The workshop is organised and funded in the framework of Elia Zardini’s FCT Project “Tolerance and Instability: The Substructure of Cognitions, Transitions and Collections”.
