Rui Sampaio da Silva studied philosophy as an undergraduate in the University of Porto and took a master’s degree at the New University of Lisbon. He is since 2006 Assistant Professor at the University of the Azores, where he took his PhD. During the preparation of the doctoral thesis, he received a Calouste Gulbenkian Fellowship that supported a research stay at the Humboldt University and the Free University of Berlin.
His main research interests cover the fields of philosophy of science, epistemology, philosophy of language and hermeneutics.
He participates often in national and international conferences and publishes regularly in Portuguese journals and other academic publications. He has also worked as a translator in a project funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology.
